To finish the Escape Quest, players will complete 6 quests. This involves scavenging for clues and solving puzzles.
The beginning of each Quest explains what needs to be done. As the crew leader, you will guide the team through the game by reading out loud the story and following the instructions.
When players have found the quest items, you will give them the indicated card in return. For example, when all 5 objects from the first quest are found, players receive the Fire card.

Show the kids the silhouettes on the Quest Goal card, so they know what they're looking for.
The kids then hunt for these 5 cards around the room:
Once they find all 5 items, give the crew the Fire card, and read this next part of the storyline out loud:
Hand players the Glowing Gem and updated T.I.M.E. Machine cards. Then narrate:
Lead players to the Incan Chocolate room, for Quest 2.
Show the kids the silhouette card, so they know what they're looking for.
Give out the reward cards, from the recipe, as the kids complete each set. Add your own flavor like:
Once they've found all the items and 'made' the chocolate, narrate with an excited voice:
Give players the Chocolate et des T.I.M.E. Machine cards. (Or, you could use a real chocolate instead!)
Lead players to the Locked Treasure room for Quest 3.
Show the kids the silhouettes on the Quest Goal card, so they know they're trying to work out a 3 digit code.
The numbers are written on hidden objects, and the scroll shows the correct order as:
Update the story when players work the code out:
Give players the Wax Seal et des updated T.I.M.E. Machine. Lead players to the Get Arty room for Quest 4.
Show the kids the silhouettes on the Quest Goal card, so they know they're trying to find the puzzle pieces and potion.
Once players complete the jigsaw puzzle, explain that they've done a painting:
Once players complete the jigsaw puzzle, and find the other items, use your best narrator voice to update the story:
<Turn to the kids expecting them to say that they're after the key. When they do continue>
When the kids find it narrate:
Lead players to the Steampunked room for Quest 5.
Show the kids the silhouettes on the Quest Goal card, so they know they're trying to find the cartridge and locked box.
Once they have completed the gun, give them the card and narrate:
Give players the Warm Superconductor card, and updated T.I.M.E. Machine then continue:
Lead players to the Future Hacker room for Quest 6.
Once players find the Power Cable and Future Tech Device give them the Racoon Artificial Intelligence and say:
The kids will need to find the food items, and make the connection between the number of sides on each piece and the numbers on the clock.
If they've found the food, but not worked the order out from the clock, use your best Racoon voice to say:
The correct order is: Circle, Square, Triangle, Hexagon.
Once the team works this out, narrate:
Distribute victory badges for winning the game. Optionally do the After the Game Activites.
As the host of this event, you will prepare everything in advance so that your house is ready for a time-travelling adventure.
This setup guide will take you through:
However, if you enjoy creating custom puzzles, you can easily edit the game using the Kit de conception included in the download. It contains the editable PowerPoint file and all creative assets.
In the game download, choose your print option:
Print the photos at any office store or online via (Amazon Photo Print). To keep the gritty look and feel, choose matte/satin rather than gloss.
Open the PDF file Print at Home Version.pdf and print the escape kit on standard A4 paper.
The game is designed for a team of 3-8 players. So, if you have a larger group, just print the kit out several times and run it as a race.
Escape Quest also includes optional posters, and invitations à la fête, to make the experience even more immersive. None of these are required to play the game, but if you want to go the extra mile, it's totally worth it!
These can be found in the download and can be printed in several ways:
Separate the cards for each quest into separate piles. They're in the correct order, so this should be a simple matter of flipping through the pile until you find the divider cards in the image above.
In the end, you should have 6 piles of quest cards, along with a 7th stack which you will carry with you as you take the kids through the game.
Set up the game in 6 different locations around your home/school. Be creative and match the setting to the quest. For example, the Bored Dinosaur quest works great outside. Follow the steps below for any particular setup steps for each quest.
How to identify cards if they're mixed up. ExpandThe cards have a symbol in the top corner to help identity which quest they belong to.
Some of the cards are part of the pile you'll carry with you so don't put these out during setup.
Sometimes, a photo printing place can really mess the order up and you might have to open the Designers Kit to get the correct order.
No special setup instructions here. Just hide the cards around 2 different locations with varying difficulty.
There are no puzzles in these quests, so the kids have a chance to get used to how the game basics work.
The title cards for each quest don't need to be hidden but can be taped to the door or wall, so you don't forget which room belongs to which quest!
Note: You can adjust the difficulty of the hiding spots for a variety of ages by choosing higher or harder-to-find locations for older children.
This quest has an optional mod where you can replace the locked chest card with a 3 digit combination lock. A bike chain around a kitchen tub or shoebox works great. If you do this the combination is 752.
Cut this painting card into 9 squares and hide each separately in the room. The kids will find these and put it together.
Also, hide the key card inside a book on page 18, and place the book in plain sight. The 2 playing cards hint at how to find this.
No special setup instructions here. Just hide the cards around the location with varying difficulty.
Time Juice: Place the Time Juice card inside a small box, then leave it in plain sight in the middle of the room.
Padlock: Place the padlock card on top of the box containing the Time Juice. Players need to find the combination before they can open it.
You'll carry the remaining cards with you as you take the kids through the game. Give them the reward cards as they find objects, solve puzzles, and progress through the quests.
For now, just keep all cards under the Game Start card in the order they come in.
Initially, the only challenge is for the kids to scavenge for puzzle cards and get used to how the game works.
Although this seems too easy, it's a very deliberate part of the Escape Quest's design and allows younger players to jump right in and enjoy themselves without getting stuck.
New puzzle types are added as you progress through the story. You'll need to guide them through each chapter, give hints, and let them know when they've solved a problem.
As the team leader, you'll guide them through these various challenges, provide hints, and let them know when they've solved a problem.
When the game starts, follow the Quest Guide on your phone. Don't worry too much about this right now, as it's all very simple to follow.
When everyone is gathered, it's time to get this party started!
Start the custom Spotify playlist by lockpaperscissors.co/quest-music on another device. There are 3 songs for each quest. If players need more time on a quest, go back and replay the songs. If players finish a quest before the songs are complete, skip forward to the next set of songs.
Optionally, play this 60-minute timer video on your phone.
When you're ready to begin, open the Quest Guide on your phone and prepare to lead your group through the perilous quests!
Now it's time to start the game!

Buy now for $29Unfortunately, there just aren't many easy escape games for kids. While a few providers are starting to make family-friendly experiences most are about creating an immersive challenge for adults (which is why we love them so much.)
This easy escape game kit bridges that gap and allows you to craft a super rewarding experience for your crew. The puzzles have been designed with this goal in mind and are ideally suited to 6-8-year-olds.
Check out La momie perdue if you're after a more challenging game for older kids (10-12 year olds).
Thanks to Lesley Gillen for sending in these pics of her party.
You get to choose how much effort you put into prep.
Although the Escape Quest kit is a complete game, that's ready to print and play, it's a lot of fun to customize (and super easy).
It comes with the editable game template so you can adjust anything.
Here's what Deborah did for her party:
We had 7 boys aged 11/12 who were a good group (up for the challenge and wanted to do it properly).
To make it exciting my husband dressed up as the Indian leader and waited in the garden for them. I blindfolded them all and they held onto each other like a train to go round to the garden for their first mission.
After the outdoor round, we moved into the kitchen for the making chocolate challenge. I stuck the cards onto some items like the milk in the fridge, a toy goat, some branches. Favourite was putting the cocoa card on the Cocopops. They were especially happy to dive into the big chocolate bar they got as loot for this round.
Expand the full story ExpandTo make the next room more challenging we closed the shutters, so the room went dark. After giving the kids a torch each (which they took home with them) it was a lot harder. To make it more fun, I'd set a real padlock which is especially hard to solve in the dark.
For the art room, I messed up a small room, used a real blank canvas, brushes and hid the parts of the puzzle inside balloons and blew up lots of other balloons. It didn't take them long to work it out, but they thought that was cool and popped them (some of them hated the popping which made it even more fun for the rest!) This was great except for the talking picture which I thought was a bit silly, but the boys just went along with it and didn't mind.
Then we went up to the next room - we used red wool and made my son's room into a darkly lit laser room. As the challenge was finding a gun and cartridge, we used Nerf guns and stuck the cards on them before hiding them in the room. They had a splendid time and we did the Mannequin Challenge while we were in there which worked well!
The final room I did in the bathroom just because it was small and a weird place for lots of boys to be in together. I also set a padlock for this one, and they found the magic potion - which was a small bottle of colored water.
Although I don't think it had the same time limit feeling of an escape room, they really enjoyed it and felt like it challenged them enough.
Printing it as photos definitely made it look professional, so I'm glad I spent that extra rather than printing it at home. Would have loved to do something with dry ice with them, afterwards, but nowhere near me to get hold of it. They were quite happy to have a game of soccer instead.
Buy now for $29Quête d'Évasion is split into 6 chapters spread across different times in earth's history. While the 1st chapter is very easy each room unlocks new and exciting puzzle types. This allows younger kids to have a go while enabling the older ones to still experience a rewarding challenge suited to their age.
Note: the 6 chapters are modular so if you feel the last few are too difficult simply leave them out.
Most of the puzzles in Quête d'Évasion involve scavenging for clues and joining the dots together. This allows 8-year-olds and 10-year-olds to both enjoy the same game since you'll be the one hiding the clues around your home. By stashing a few in higher, or harder, places everyone gets to have a go with fewer arguments.
Note: This game's designed for young kids so if you've got teenagers I'd recommend this game instead -> Révolte Rebelle.
No DIY escape game is complete without themed background music. This Spotify playlist has 3 songs for each of the rooms in the challenge.
For example, the Bored Dinosaur challenge has Tribal Drumming whereas Future Hackers is all about quirky synth.
When you start the game just open up Spotify and hit play on the first song. Then skip/back depending on how fast the crew is going.
