Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers are proud to present THE MARAUDER'S MAP - a magical document that will reveal all of DIY escape room secrets.
So what are you waiting for? Cast the spell and reveal the hidden content.
"...I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."
It's important to understand the difference between the escape room (plain...ehh) and the ESCAPE ROOM (magical...ahh).
An escape room is a physical space where you are locked and have to use various clues to escape. An ESCAPE ROOM, on the other hand, is an escape game that has been enhanced with magical elements to make it more exciting, challenging, and fun.
Make your clues cooler!
Use invisible ink pens to hide the clues in plain sight. Your guests will be amazed when the hidden message appears before their eyes.
You can make clues invisible quicker than Mr. Ping can say 'noddles.' You will need a few sheets of paper, a sharpened pencil, water, and a hard, flat surface.
Now dip one piece of paper in the water and place it on a flat surface. You can also use a mirror. Now place the other piece of paper on top of the wet sheet and write your clue using the pencil. Once done, simply peel off the top sheet.
"The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog."
See? Now wasn't that easy? And you didn't even need a wand!
Now that you know how to make invisible ink try using it in other ways, like hiding messages around the room or writing secret notes to your friends.
But be warned...the power of invisibility can be misused! So use it wisely, young Padawan!
Make it harder for your kids to find clues from the worthless duplicates. It'll be just like in the Goblet of Fire!
All you'll need is an old treasure box. This will add an exciting twist to your kid's journey to find the next clue.
First, take the box and fill it with worthless objects.
Second, paint one of the objects with glow-in-the-dark paint. When the object is placed among the others, it will be indistinguishable.
Third, place the box in a dark room and watch as your kid's face lights up when they find the hidden clue!
You can hide clues underneath furniture, inside books, or in other places where they would be difficult to find. If you'd like to take it to the next level, you can use scratch and reveal cards.
To make your own scratch and reveal cards, you'll need some cardstock, a black sharpie, and a white crayon.
First, write your clue with the black sharpie on the cardstock.
Next, color the entire surface with the white crayon.
Finally, use scissors to cut out small pieces of the cardstock, being careful not to cut into the black sharpie.
Now your kids will have to use their fingernails or a key to reveal the hidden clue!
This is really interesting, and your kids are going to love it.
You can make use of clear plastic/glass containers with a lead, a magnet, a key, and something to fill the jar with. You can use foam balls, sand, or even gems to make it engaging for your kids.
Now, cut a slot in the jar's lid and seal the container with the key inside. Once you've done that, your kids will have to use the magnet to levitate the key and unlock the jar.
This escape room idea is perfect for those who love a challenge!
This is a great escape room idea for those who want to add an extra layer of difficulty.
You'll need a recording device, a speaker, and a sound-amplifying object to make this work.
First, record your clue and play it back on the recording device.
Next, take the sound-amplifying object (a glass or a cup will work) and place it over the speaker.
Now your kids will have to figure out how to amplify the sound in order to hear the clue!
You can record riddles, their favorite music, or it could be Dumbledore himself narrating the next clue!
This is another magical DIY escape room idea that can transform your simple escape room game into an exciting adventure.
You can use a box, a jar, or anything with a false bottom. Just make sure to place the clue in the false bottom so that your kids won't be able to see it.
Now, when they go to grab the clue, they'll be surprised when the false bottom opens, and the clue will come out!
This escape room idea is perfect for those who want to add a little bit of excitement.
You can use a simple laser pointer and some mirrors to create a complex maze that your kids will have to navigate in order to find the next clue.
First, you'll need to set up the mirrors in such a way that the laser creates a maze.
Next, hide the clue at the end of the maze and watch as your kids try to solve it!
You can use these spells (escape room ideas) to create a simple escape room for your kids, or you can use them to add an extra layer of difficulty to your existing escape room. Either way, your kids are sure to have a blast!
