Open the PowerPoint.
Customize whatever you want using the included artwork or your own.
Mix and match elements or combine with real world props, such as padlocks.
Export the PowerPoint slides as photos ready for printing. The template ensures they'll be perfectly sized and look great!
How to print the DIY escape kit.
In the game download, choose your print option:
Print as 4x6 Photos:
Print the photos at any office store or online via (Amazon Photo Print). To keep the gritty look and feel, choose matte/satin rather than gloss.
Or, Print at Home:
Open the PDF file Print at Home Version.pdf and print the escape kit on standard A4 paper.
The game is designed for a team of 3-8 players. So, if you have a larger group, just print the kit out several times and run it as a race.
Optional Posters and Party Invites
Escape Quest also includes optional posters, and party invites, to make the experience even more immersive. None of these are required to play the game, but if you want to go the extra mile, it's totally worth it!
These can be found in the download and can be printed in several ways:
Invitations: print as 4x6 photos (normal photos).
Posters: Ledger/A3 or Legal/A4
Prep The Clue Cards
Separate the cards for each quest into separate piles. They're in the correct order, so this should be a simple matter of flipping through the pile until you find the divider cards in the image above.
In the end, you should have 6 piles of quest cards, along with a 7th stack which you will carry with you as you take the kids through the game.
Set up the game in 6 different locations around your home/school. Be creative and match the setting to the quest. For example, the Bored Dinosaur quest works great outside. Follow the steps below for any particular setup steps for each quest.
The cards have a symbol in the top corner to help identity which quest they belong to.
Some of the cards are part of the pile you'll carry with you so don't put these out during setup.
Sometimes, a photo printing place can really mess the order up and you might have to open the Designers Kit to get the correct order.
Bored Dinosaur & Incan Chocolate.
No special setup instructions here. Just hide the cards around 2 different locations with varying difficulty.
There are no puzzles in these quests, so the kids have a chance to get used to how the game basics work.
The title cards for each quest don't need to be hidden but can be taped to the door or wall, so you don't forget which room belongs to which quest!
Note: You can adjust the difficulty of the hiding spots for a variety of ages by choosing higher or harder-to-find locations for older children.
3: Locked Chest.
This quest has an optional mod where you can replace the locked chest card with a 3 digit combination lock. A bike chain around a kitchen tub or shoebox works great. If you do this the combination is 752.
4: Get Arty
Cut this painting card into 9 squares and hide each separately in the room. The kids will find these and put it together.
Also, hide the key card inside a book on page 18, and place the book in plain sight. The 2 playing cards hint at how to find this.
5: Steampunked!
No special setup instructions here. Just hide the cards around the location with varying difficulty.
6: Future Hacker
Time Juice: Place the Time Juice card inside a small box, then leave it in plain sight in the middle of the room.
Padlock: Place the padlock card on top of the box containing the Time Juice. Players need to find the combination before they can open it.
Remaining cards
You'll carry the remaining cards with you as you take the kids through the game. Give them the reward cards as they find objects, solve puzzles, and progress through the quests.
For now, just keep all cards under the Game Start card in the order they come in.
How to solve puzzles.
Initially, the only challenge is for the kids to scavenge for puzzle cards and get used to how the game works.
Although this seems too easy, it's a very deliberate part of the Escape Quest's design and allows younger players to jump right in and enjoy themselves without getting stuck.
New puzzle types are added as you progress through the story. You'll need to guide them through each chapter, give hints, and let them know when they've solved a problem.
As the team leader, you'll guide them through these various challenges, provide hints, and let them know when they've solved a problem.
When the game starts, follow the Quest Guide on your phone. Don't worry too much about this right now, as it's all very simple to follow.
Get The Escape Party Started:
When everyone is gathered, it's time to get this party started!
Start the custom Spotify playlist by lockpaperscissors.co/quest-music on another device. There are 3 songs for each quest. If players need more time on a quest, go back and replay the songs. If players finish a quest before the songs are complete, skip forward to the next set of songs.
Try The Lost Mummy. The done-for-you escape room adventure kit that transforms your space into an ancient Egyptian mummy's tomb … complete with puzzling puzzles, mysterious messages, spooky stuff, and ancient organs!
Perfect for kids birthdays and events, or an accessible game suitable for all ages.
"The United World Government has almost finished building their Warhead Antimatter Response (W.A.R.) facility. We can't let that happen." Shouts Maxx, the leader of our rebel resistance.
"You lot are our last hope."
"Frankly, after the last 3 teams didn't make it back, I'd all but given up on this mission". She barks with undue optimism.
"In this treasonous mission, you must:
Disable the guard mechs, then
Break into the W.A.R. Facility without being detected.
Then steal the Antimatter Warhead and rig the facility to blow."
"You're all Specialists. Our best and last hope. This facility cannot come online if our resistance is ever to succeed."
Choose your Team
Each player starts by choosing a Character Card, which is your persona to adopt during the mission.
You'll all have a chance to take charge, and lead the team to victory during a particular challenge. It will require you to step up, manage communication, read the relevant mission details, and make the calls that will get your team to the other side.
Optionally, feel free to role-play, use a different accent, and generally be the biggest ego in the room.
Note: If you don't have 6 stacks of Challenge cards set up, jump over to the Setup Guide and sort them into piles.
Training Mission
(How to solve puzzles)
Rebel Revolt is broken into 4 challenges. You'll receive these as printed puzzles, and check your answers on your phone by entering them on this website.
To get a feel for this try solving the Training Mission card before starting the game. If you get stuck, just tap on one of the hints to get a clue. If you're still unsure just click the solution box to reveal the answer. However, using these will lose you Rebel Points. If you're playing competitively, this could cost you big.
Training puzzle
What's the name given to Mech A?
Correct
Crushed it!
When you solve all the puzzles, that make up a particular challenge, tap the button at the bottom of the page to proceed to the next phase of your mission. Yes, this means you can cheat, but then you'll have to deal with Tess...
Incorrect
Keep trying.
Hint: A is for apple. It's also the 1st letter of the alphabet.
[Loose 5 Rebel Points].
How did you go?
Once you've completed the Training Mission, it's time to get this party started! To move to the next stage just tap the large green button at the bottom of the page. Throughout the game, this is how you'll go to the next challenge (the next stack of cards).
Yes, the crafty one among you just mentioned cheating... but it's a lot more interesting to solve puzzles and have fun. Keep being cunning through. You're going to need it.
[Knox and Zhar, you each have an own area of expertise that you'll lead during this Challenge. One of you rearrange the cards and announce:]
"We're in!"
"Our 2 objectives are to:
Find a Penning Trap so we can steal the Antimatter. It's probably locked in a safe somewhere.
Blow this joint by rigging the self-destruct system. Knox has found the reactor's circuit board, which can be hacked. All we have to do is remove whichever diode is connected to R4."
[You can open a high-resolution version of the circuit board on their phone by going to lockpaperscissors.co/board ]
Get the Penning Trap
Need to unlock the D.R.I.L. using the 6 symbol passcode. It has something to do with the shredded email.
What's the 6 digit code to unlock the D.R.I.L. and get the Penning Trap?
Correct
Clink. Whoop. Whoop. Clack.
The D.R.I.L. is unlocked.
Inside you find a Penning Trap, for storing antimatter, along with a crusty old bagel.
Incorrect
Beep Beep. The door stays locked and enters security lockdown.
[Loose 5 Rebel Points].
Set the Self Destruct
The R4 diode, on the circuit board, connects to exactly 1 other diode. If we can disable it, the self-destruct sequence will begin.
Which diode is connect to R4?
Correct
BLEEP. BLEEP. BLEEP. Self-destruct activated. All personal, and mechs, are to evacuate immediately.
Grab that antimatter and get outta here. Pronto!
Incorrect
Ow! Snaps Knox, copping 1000 volts to his hand. That... that's not it!
[Tess, as the social hacker in the crew you'll take charge here. Replace the Challenge 1 cards with those from the Challenge 2 pile. When you're ready read out the intro and lead away:]
"Boom headshot, boom headshot, booooom hheadddshooot! Those mechs never knew what hit them."
"Now that it's safe to approach the facility, we need to find a way inside. I've planned ahead and brought some engineer's uniforms, which should work as disguises."
"However, there's an ID check at the front door which we need the correct passphrase for. One of Zhar's contacts has leaked a security memo, which hopefully contains the answer".
Get past the security bot
The security robot asks Isn't it an exciting time to be alive?
What is the correct passphrase?
Correct
Welcome!
The immense steel door glides open effortlessly... you're in.
[Tap the big button below to enter the building.]
Incorrect
I Don't believe you!
I don't believe you! Snaps the security robot, before deactivating for a while.
High Tech guard mechs block your approach to the W.A.R. Facility. Rae can use her sniper rifle to take them out, however, to make a shot this long she'll need to calibrate it first.
Work out the correct distance, temperature shift, and bullet caliber and check each answer below.
Tap Let's do this when you're ready to shoot.
Calibrate to a distance of:
Correct
Perfect.
Now work out the temperature shift and bullet caliber.
Incorrect
Hmmm... not quite there.
If only there were landmarks we could measure and count...
[Loose 5 Rebel Points].
Adjust for temperature modifier:
Correct
Perfect.
Now you just need the distance and bullet caliber.
Incorrect
Doesn't feel right.
Keep rolling on though...
[Loose 5 Rebel Points].
Use bullets with caliber:
Correct
Perfect.
Now you just need the distance and temperature shift.
Incorrect
Doesn't feel right.
Try arranging the bullets in the correct order then do first things first...
How to Throw the Ultimate Escape Room House Party.
Time to kiss boring parties goodbye (Finally)
Does this sound familiar?
You and your mates are tired of your typical Friday night routine. If you have to sit in that same booth down at the pub and listen to Barry ramble on about his latest conquest one more time, you're pretty sure you might stab someone in the eye with a butter knife.
Or...
It's a rainy Sunday, the kids are bouncing off the walls, and frankly, there are only so many crafts you can make with cupcake liners and popsicle sticks, 'mIright?
Or...
Everyone is converging at your house this Christmas, and it's up to you to keep the topic of politics from ruining another holiday.
You'll be transforming a room in your house into a live game experience. (Or alternatively, you could follow the Adams' example and deck-out the whole house!) It'll require fun puzzles, party games, mini-challenges, and a swag of creative thinking.
Like any other house party, you can do them anywhere. If your living room doesn't work, try your yard, deck, workplace, basement, or dungeon.
Best of all they're ideal for most occasions - birthday or anniversary, baby or bridal shower, an informal gathering, a soirée, a shindig, or something in between. Just don't do it for a funeral; people won't like that.
(ok, maybe our zombies escape kit could be good for a funeral, but we'll leave that one up to you).
Nick Houghton threw this DIY escape party using the Escape Room Z Kit. (He's not even a paid actor and still looks like he's having a grand old time).
So, I'm locking friends in my house?
Don't worry, it's only slightly creepy. You're not going to get charged with kidnapping here.
This is just a game. Imagination plays a huge part in it.
If you've ever played role-playing games (no, not that kind of role playing), you can think of escape parties as a sort of offshoot of that. But guests don't have to create characters or roll dice or know the difference between an elf and a brownie. And the game doesn't last nearly as long (phew).
If you've ever been to a murder mystery party or dinner theater production, it's also kind of like that. Except guests aren't required to pretend to be anyone but themselves, and nobody has to jump up and yell anything embarrassing every time a specific cue is given.
They can have touches of Raiders of the Lost Ark, any James Bond film, a Stephen King novel, the latest movie about mummies, or your favorite television show about zombies ... you get the picture. It's a bit of all the awesome stuff in the world.
And best yet, our friends at Escape Games to Go can run the game in your own home!
If you've ever played an escape room, you might be imagining trying to retrofit your garage or sun porch into an elaborate stage set with realistic props and high-tech triggers that open secret doors or activate laser mazes.
While nobody can deny that having a secret room hidden behind a bookcase in your house would be wicked cool, it's not necessary to spend that kind of money and time to entertain your friends on a Saturday night. (But if you've already got yourself a secret lair, you may as well use it!)
The primary appeal of an escape room is solving puzzles and overcoming challenges - not special effects.
As a host, you're really designing a fun party game. Your guests aren't paying to play; they're coming over to hang out, enjoy some snacks, and have a good time.
This means that you don't need to spend a fortune on this thing either. You can use our cash-saving party hacks to save a few gold pieces for later...
First, you introduce a simple narrative: Zombies are coming. Or, a murder has been committed . . . possibly by zombies.
You can use anything for inspiration. Have your kids been singing Frozen non-stop? (maybe try this game) Maybe you hang around the water cooler every week recapping the most recent Game of Thrones episode. Or, your friends can't stop talking about Stranger Things. Or, perhaps your group just about had a coronary from excitement when FOX announced they were bringing Prison Break back. If all else fails, you can't beat dragons, right?
You get the idea. Just find something your crew loves.
Whatever it is, this theme will help you establish the ultimate goal your players must work towards, whether that involves escaping or just finding the answer to a big question.
Once you've decided on a theme and a storyline, it's time to set up a series of challenges that move your party guests toward the big objective, give them a time limit, and let the fun begin!
Developing a series of puzzles to challenge your house party victims guests is probably the most time-consuming - but also the most enjoyable - part of the process.
Additionally, if you've ever played Uncharted or other puzzle games, flog a few ideas from your favorite levels.
Alternatively, if you're stuck for ideas, download any of these escape room kits. They're a complete game, full of puzzles and challenges, and come with a template so you can customize anything you like.
It might sound that way, but actually staging your own escape game can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.
Even when hosting a regular get-together, you know how much time and effort you want to put into party planning. This is no different.
Some people like to go all out and spend hours (sometimes even days) designing a scenario and putting together the materials to create an elaborate dungeon for their escape room. They visit thrift stores for props and costume pieces and create a truly immersive experience for their crew. This can be incredibly rewarding for both the host and the players who get to enjoy a mesmerizing adventure.
But sometimes you want to do something fun and special, but you also have your day-to-day life to contend with, and you just don't know if you can commit that kind of time. (Not everyone has a hoard of worker goblins at their disposal). In that case, you can put together a pretty simple escape party in an afternoon, or you might want to check out one of these ready-to-play escape party kits. They make it much easier and can be customized so you can still get your hands dirty. To see how they work, here's a mindblowing story of one mom who went all out throwing an escape party for her kid's birthday using a kit to save time.
Who do I invite to my escape party?
This one is easy. Invite your friends! Or your coworkers. Or the people in your book club. Or those neighbors you know have been secretly wondering if your house has the same layout as theirs.
Obviously, there's an ideal target audience for escape rooms. People, elves, and goblins who enjoy other types of games, particularly puzzles or logic games, tend to flock to room escape businesses to test their cognitive acuity against professional puzzle designers.
But really, just about everyone enjoys a group activity that involves a little storytelling, a little challenge, and some exciting "ah-ha" moments.
So invite your best mates, favorite acquaintances, and fellow adventurers. By the end of the game, everyone will be friends, and you'll all have the perfect conversation starter as you sit down to enjoy wine and cheese, beer and pretzels, or cake and ice cream.
No matter what you do, or how you do it, you should be prepared for a ton of "Likes." 😉
Unlike board games (and don't get me wrong - I love board games), escape rooms get everyone up and moving around. People put down their phones and engage in real-life activities (well, as real as imagination-based game tasks can be). There's curiosity and imagination and teamwork involved.
And laughter. Lots and lots of laughter.
But before the laughter begins, please take a moment to consider that some children have to escape more than just a room - and together, we can help!

Party Builder's Toolkit.
The complete Builder's Toolkit comes bundled with the game so you can customize it to your liking. It's in PowerPoint format so you can easily make as many changes as you like.
Perfect for small groups since it scales to any size
From 2 person family gatherings to teen escape birthdays, School classrooms, and youth groups.
Escape rooms are one of the best team building activities ever. They require constant communication and challenge players with healthy conflict. The Rebel Revolt kit takes this to the next level by creating a competitive environment where teams simultaneously battle for King of the Hill. Just print out a copy of the game for every 4 players.
Here's what the event looks like with larger groups:
Split the group into several teams of 4 people that will race for King of the Hill.
Each group can play simultaneously.
Teams require 1-2 mobile phones so they can look up hints in the Mission Guide and complete some of the challenges. The Survival Guide also contains solutions so if you have super competitive teams make players come to you where you'll give them the hint but they'll receive a time penalty.
The winner is the team that scores the highest points at the end, so there's no need to set a timer unless your day requires it.
Make a big event out of revealing the winning team since this will be a highlight of the challenge.
The weapon of choice for rebels around the world
4.8/5 stars on Facebook. We love to thrill!
How to customize the game
This is a great way to get into designing your first escape room since a lot of the grunt work has already been done for you.
For example, adding real life combination padlocks or customizing the game for a friends birthday or corporate team building.
Also great for corporate team building days and events
The Rebel Revolt kit will take 30-60 minutes to set up and can be printed multiple times to scale to any group size (I've had a group of 130 people at a conference run one of the party kits).
When running the game:
Set the game up by following the Setup Guide. If space is limited just place all the puzzles in the middle of each team's table rather than spreading them out.
Set a 60-minute timer.
As the Game Master, you'll be the one giving out hints. This is super easy as they're all in the Mission Guide. Just open it up, on your phone, and when a group asks for a hint you can read them out.
Set a time penalty for using a hint (2 minutes for a hint or 5 minutes for a full solution). Just do a tally of these and deduct them from the final times at the end.

Mix and match elements or combine with real-world props, such as padlocks.
Export the PowerPoint slides as photos ready for printing. The template ensures they'll be perfectly sized and look great!
Add in real world props (Optional)
Once super fun way to make the escape party kit more immersive is with real world props. You can do this in many ways, but the easiest option is to put the clue cards for Challenge 2 into a small box, then lock it with a combination lock or bike lock the matches one of the puzzle answers.
There're two puzzles in this challenge that result in a combination:
Distance is 1050 which is perfect for most 4 digit combination/bike locks.
Bullet caliber is FIFTY which works with some 5 letter bike locks.
Set the lock to one of these combinations, and when players open it they get the Disguise Kit clue cards (Challenge 2). This themes very nicely if you label the box Disguise Kit.
The game is designed for a team of 4 players. So, if you have a larger group, just print the kit out several times, and run the game as a competitive team event. For example:
2-4 players = print once.
5-8 players = print twice.
9-12 players = print 3 times.
Optional Posters and party Invites:
Rebel Revolt also includes optional posters, and party invites, to make the experience even more immersive. None of these are required to play the game, but if you want to go the extra mile, it's totally worth it!
Prep The Clue Cards
Set up the cards like this.
To steal the antimatter warhead, you and your team will need to complete several sets of challenges.
You'll receive these puzzles on Challenge cards (the kit you've printed). Start by splitting these into 6 piles before the game beings. If you've printed the pack on A4 paper, cut out the images, so they look similar to these pictures.
They should be in order, however, if they get mixed up use the symbols to group them again.
Whatever the challenge, you'll check your answers on your phone, using this website.
Don't worry too much about this right now. There's a training mission, which you'll complete together before the game starts.
Once you've solved all puzzles for a particular challenge, you'll see a large red button at the bottom of the page that will take you to the next chapter (yes, this means you can cheat, but hey it's a game so have some fun instead).
Alternatively, Play Offline
Rebel Revolt is designed as an online game. You need to go online in order to check your answers, as well as access hints and solutions when your team gets stuck (of course, I'm sure you won't get stuck. You're far too clever!).
However, we know better than to give rules to a group of trigger-happy rebels! You can play Rebel Revolt offline with our Printable Hints pack.
Just print the 'printable hints' pdf in the 'game' folder, and you're good to go! (And don't worry, you can fold the hints sheet to play it completely spoiler free!)

When you're ready to begin, give everyone a quick rundown on how escape rooms work since some people will have never played one before.
Open the Mission Guide on your phone and narrate the intro with pure extroverted style.
The Mission Guide also contains plenty of hints for solving each puzzle. As a group, agree on how you will use hints before the game begins to avoid players getting frustrated. As a rule of thumb, it's time for some help if players are stuck on a single puzzle for more than 5 minutes.
Split the group into several teams of 4-8 people that will compete for King of the Hill.
Each group can play simultaneously.
Teams require 1-2 mobile phones so they can look up hints in the Survival Guide and complete some of the challenges. The Survival Guide also contains solutions so if you have super competitive teams make players come to you where you'll give them the hint but they'll receive a time penalty.
It's a race to the finish so there's no need to set a timer unless your day requires it.

Corporate Team Building & Conferences
The Rebel Revolt kit will take 30-60 minutes to set up and can be printed multiple times to scale to any group size (I've had a group of 130 people at a conference run one of the game kits).
When running the game:
Place all the puzzles in the middle of each team's table in the correct 5 piles.
Set a 60-minute timer.
Explain how the game will work and ask teams to write down any points they loose from looking at solutions or stepping on Stun Mines.
Each team should work out their final score when the timers run out and report it to you.
Keep all score secret until you make a big deal of revealing the winning team.
STOP
This is the Process Map for the Entire Game. Only read if you're not going to play the game yourself.
"It's pitch black! This wasn't in the plan, and what's that strange noise all around us?"
"Look out." Yells Zhar. "The floor's covered in stun mines!"
"How can you tell, it's totally dark in here?"
"What do you think these goggles are for? Fashion!?" Zhar snaps back.
[From here Zhar will need to take charge, setup the minigame below, and get the crew out of here. Fast.]
Stun Mine Mini Game
In this mini-game, the Rebel-Revolt crew will slip past stun mines blindfolded to escape the W.A.R. Facility:
Place the Stun Mines on the ground along a hallway, small area of the room, or around a door.
Blindfold all players except Zhar, to simulate the lights going out in The Facility. Optionally, players can remove their shoes so they can feel the stun mines.
Whichever player is Zhar will use their night vision goggles to see what's going on and isn't blindfolded.
The other team members move to one side of the stun mine field, then spins around a few times.
Zhar sets a 7-minute timer on their phone.
Zhar then guides the rest of the Rebel Revolt crew past the stun mines just using their voice.
Each time a player steps on a Stun Mine the team will lose 10 points, so be careful. Take it slow, but don't go over time or the W.A.R. Facility will explode and you'll lose the game!
"The United World Government has almost finished building their Warhead Antimatter Response (W.A.R.) facility. We can't let that happen." Shouts Maxx, the leader of our rebel resistance.

"Frankly, after the last 3 teams didn't make it back, I'd all but given up on this mission". She barks with undue optimism.
"In this treasonous mission, you must:

In this cipher A=1, B=2, C=3 etc... By swapping each number with the correct character you get the name:
1.12.2.5.18.20 = A.l.b.e.r.t
How did you go?
Once you've completed the Training Mission, it's time to get this party started! To move to the next stage just tap the large red button at the bottom of the page. Throughout the game, this is how you'll go to the next challenge (the next stack of cards).
Yes, the crafty one among you just mentioned cheating... but it's a lot more interesting to solve puzzles and have fun. Keep being cunning through. You're going to need it.
